Original early films of Bill and Lois W. by Authur J. Daley with UNIQUE UNPUBLISHED portions of the AAWS film, Bill's Own Story

This is a 12 day online auction with the following description provided by the current owner.

Arthur J. Daley was born in New York on April 4, 1913. He was a photographer, well known for photos published in Sports Illustrated and a film maker of varied subjects, documentaries and kinescope films of current events.

His friend and sponsor, Bill Wilson asked Arthur to help him make a narrative film about his own experience and the beginnings of Alcoholic Anonymous. These 16 mm films and segments are the original works produced from that endeavor. Arthur Daley passed away and left his personal and professional property to his only son, Robert. Robert ended his own life in April of 2005. The original film properties were obtained from the estate.

The collection consists of three reels of sectional film. The smaller segments have been temporarily spliced together for viewing and condensing purposes. Each reel is labeled and has an accompanying description. Several segments are the original developed negative print (red film). All other segments are original prints of the filmmaker used in the film or edited cuts. One section of audio is Bill Wilson discussing his childhood, first love and then meeting Lois, then Lois described attending school for occupational therapy…this audio is NOT on the production copy of Bill's Own Story available to AA members today. The three reels are in canisters hand labeled by Arthur Daley himself. This auction includes a VHS copy of the finished film for the collector to have in comparison.

A Further notation – the color and clarity of the 16mm films are superior to the available VHS copy from AA. All films have been inspected and viewed. They are supple and in good condition. It would be prudent for winning bidder to consider having the films professionally cleaned and lubricated to insure their longevity and conservation.

In review – this collection consists of edited sections and unedited sections of film which comprise most of Bill's Own Story. They are original to the filmmaker himself and can be authenticated by the executrix of the Robert Daley estate.
