The current owner of this rare collection provides the following information and descriptions.

Please be able to provide prompt payment on any offer made, after acceptance from seller.

All of these books and memorabilia have come from the estate of Arthur Daley; Arthur was a very close friend of Bill W. & Lois. He had a son named Robert who also came into A.A. The items listed from Lois were those given to Robert Daley. Arthur was a professional photographer and worked with major sporting magazines covering the New York teams. While researching Arthur Daley, I found that there was a sports writer in New York during the same time period with a son Robert, (this seems very coincidental). This Arthur Daley was a Pulitzer Prize wining sports writer with the N. Y. Times. Because A.A. is so anonymous, it is very difficult to get all the facts. I do know that this Arthur Daley was a good friend of Bill's, assisted at some level with several books, and told that he and his son were involved in making early films of Bill. One of the letters included with this sale from Lois states: "much gratitude for your help with making the early films of Bill".

6. Lois Remember's First edition, first printing. Signed by Lois.

The book is warmly inscribed to Art's son, Robert. Thanking him for helping with the early films of Bill. Considering all factors and the relationship Bill & Lois had with this family increases its value.

1. Alcoholics Anonymous First Edition 14th printing with original DJ. and Bill W. Inscription.

This book was not a book handed to Bill W. at a conference. This book was a presentation copy that Bill gave to a very close friend Art Daley, expressing his gratitude. Bill inscribed this book at his home in Bedford Hill as shown by the B.H. above the date.

The overall condition of this copy is very good. The d/j shows some wear around the edges. The binding is tight, and the gold gilding on the spine is bright. The inscription reads: "TO ART- Again, my gratitude for your labor in affection. 10/17/53 Ever, Bill."

2. Twelve Steps And Twelve Traditions first printing, with original DJ. and Bill W. Inscription.

This book as well was warmly inscribed to his friend Art. This copy was a very early one because Bill signed it May 28, 1953. It is my understanding that the book was not released until June. This book is in excellent condition with the d/j showing wear around the edges. The inscription reads, "Dear Art, With all my gratitude for your recovery and all my thanks for your kindness to Lois and me. Devotedly, Bill (May 28, 1953) B.H." (Bedford Hill).

It was certainly one of the first copies of the book and it's in exceptional condition.

3. Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age First Edition A.A. Publishing, with Bill W. Inscription.

This was a special presentation copy Bill gave to Art, thanking him for his help on the book as the contributing photographer; I know this because a very rare negative of Dr. Silkworth is included in the Daley collection that is the same as in the book.

Book is in excellent condition, d/j has one tear at the bottom. Inscription reads; "Dear Art- Please have this token of my affection and for all that you did to make this book what it is! Gratefully, Bill 9/ /57."

4. Alcoholics Anonymous First printing of the second edition, presented to Art by the General Service Office, with 78 signatures.

The General Service Office presented this book to Art from many of his A.A. friends. Anybody who was anybody in A.A. during 1956 seemed to sign this special book. With 78 signatures, including many prominent people in A.A. such as Bill and Lois W., Nell Wing, Jim Burwell (A rare signature to find) and many more. This is not a book that was passed around a delegates meeting, but was a special presentation to Art. This is demonstrated by the fact that some wrote personal notes to Art thanking him, including Dr. Earl Marsh, who inscribed and signed his story in the Big Book.

As noted "realy" is misspelled and groups at 6,000 as of 1955. The book has the original d/j, which does show normal wear resulting from age.

The list of names signed in here is truly a who's-who's for the time. I will do my best to list many of the names however if you enlarge the pictures you should have a decent opportunity to see them.  I believe there are 78 counting Bill & Lois.  Listing names of those I could identify: Pat Kelly, Milwaukee Hazel Rice, General Service Office Katharine B. Swentzel _ I think this is Lois's sister Louise Shorts? GSO Jack Thompson Eve Marsh - GSO Maurice Grady E.D. Sheridan ICKY Dallas, TX Chris Andersen, Brooklyn Clayton B Hall - (I believe he was a trustee) Jimmie Smith - Springfield, Mass Glen Whittier, Sterling, CO Lane Poe, Oklahoma City Frank Layne Marian Dinke (note reads, to our whizz-bang photog Maurice Gross Ann Mojailare (not sure of spelling) GSH Staff Hank Griene (GSH) Hank was the first paid office manager Burt Cassedy Bern Smith- trustee Dennis Manders - GSH Staff Icky Jim Burwell - one of the first members Big Book author Frank Holton Tom Cardona Cal McCarthy Jr. - trustee Delores R. Dalziel Nell Wing - Bill's Assistant Pat Boyles Tom O'Brien- Grapevine Herb Mosse - A.A. Pub (he later was the office manager) Peter O'Toole, Newark Edward Camden, NJ Charlie Brown, Vancouver BC - started A.A. in Vancouver Nancy Manzi Mary Lu Schultz, ALB, NM Bart Whitehead - Arizona Al Marineau, LA early CA member Stan Wiley, SF Vic Maloney, Sacramento, CA Jim Burwell - San Diego Cliff Walker - early CA member, also I believe he was a trustee Lib Bernard Smith - trustee Archibald Roosevelt - trustee Jim Falloon, Washington DC Jim Warner, Sheevesport Jack Norris - trustee Earl Marsh - Big Book, Physician , Heal Thyself - he signed this to Art on page 393 above his story. There were another 15 or so names in this book that I could not make out. There were several indications with this book that Art may have done some work with the GRAPEVINE, Hazel Rice's note makes reference and on the page edges the word GRAPEVINE is printed. To find any book signed by this many notable A.A. members and friends is a real treasure.

5. Letter signed by Bill W. Co-Founder of A.A. This letter was sent to Art, a very good friend of Bill, as a thank you.

Bill really reveals his human side with his almost comically attitude when thanking Art for the Christmas gift, (a picture of he & Lois making whoopee) please check out the details of the letter. Bill sent this letter to Art a professional photographer who worked very closely with Bill on several projects including A.A. Comes of Age. Although I have many photographs of Bill & Lois that are included with the collection, the one that this letter references is not included.

When attempting to determine the value of highly collectable, one of a kind signed memorabilia the appraiser will consider the following elements.

Condition, Authenticity, Historical Significance, Market potential and Rarity

This letter rates A+++ on the listed criteria
